PERFORM Launches Revolutionary Sports News Service
6th September 2010, LONDON: Digital sports specialists PERFORM have today announced the arrival of OMNISPORT, their flagship sports news service - the first service of its kind that fully caters for today's multi-platform sports broadcast requirements, offering over 15,000 news stories a year with fully integrated video, editorial, imagery and data.
OMNISPORT will tackle many of the shortfalls of current providers head on:
- 90% of its video stories will be cleared for all platforms
- 75% of all its overall output will be football focused
- All stories will link video, editorial, data and images together
- All stories will be available in a range of flexible delivery options to enable broadcasters to publish sports news content across their TV, online and mobile services
OMNISPORT's content coverage will initially focus on the top five global sports (football, tennis, basketball, motorsports and golf) and will provide over 100% more football news video stories from the top five leagues than current providers. OMNISPORT will be broken down into four content packages - UK Football (which includes news from the Premier League, Cup competitions, England Internationals and English teams in UEFA competitions), Global Football (which combines the UK Football package with in depth news, previews and round-ups from the rest of the world's leading football competitions), Sport (combining all the content from the Football package with breaking news from all the top global sports) and Special Events (covering major events).
The strength of the OMNISPORT service lies in the flexibility and ease of the publishing methods which include an Uncut scheduled satellite format (plus script) for broadcasters, Ready format combining video, editorial, imagery and data for online and mobile publishing, a fully produced daily sports news Bulletin for multi-platform broadcasters and a range of white-label Hosted Solutions that include fully managed web portals, mobile portals and smart phone applications.
To test the market for the service, PERFORM launched a beta version of the service for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which was taken by over fifty broadcasters, ISP's, mobile operators and publishers including
BBC, ITV, CBS Sports, CBC, Univision, Sky New Zealand, Vodafone, T Mobile and Orange. In addition to this, the Bulletin version of OMNISPORT is currently distributed to a number of leading broadcasters and media groups including SBS, Starhub, Al Jazeera, Astro, Boom, Channel Ten and BT Vision.
Oliver Slipper, Joint-CEO, PERFORM said: "OMNISPORT marks a new era in the delivery of sports news content to broadcasters. Sports fans are consuming sport wherever and whenever they can across any device and we understand that sports news broadcasters need a flexible sports news solution that can be tailored to their services. We have spoken to frustrated multi-platform broadcasters who at present are using providers that deliver only editorial or video formats and often only clear rights for one platform.
OMNISPORT will revolutionise this sector - providing a greater volume of stories across sports that people really care about, in formats that suit today's multi-platform broadcasters and we have ensured that 90% of the video content is cleared for TV, online and mobile services."
Jamie Rice, Managing Director, OMNISPORT added: "In OMNISPORT, we have both the largest volume of content and the leading multi-platform technical delivery in the market. The breadth and volume of our coverage, coupled with the level of our rights cleared content, shows that we are trying to remove the headache for multi-platform broadcasters clients by providing an easy one-stop shop for all their sports news requirements."
